Perks System

Understand how VIP card perks and discounts work in the ClubVIP platform.

What are Perks?

Perks are the benefits VIP cardholders receive, primarily:

  • Discount percentages on drinks
  • Special offers (cover charge, free drinks)
  • Tier-based benefits (Silver, Gold, Platinum)

How Perks Work

The Perk Rule System

Perks are configured using Perk Rule Sets that define:

  • Which card tiers get which discounts
  • Which locations the perks apply to
  • What categories of drinks are discounted

Example Perk Structure

Silver Tier:
- Cover Charge: $10 (normally $20)
- Drink Discount: 10% off

Gold Tier:
- Cover Charge: $5 (normally $20)
- Drink Discount: 20% off

Platinum Tier:
- Cover Charge: Free (normally $20)
- Drink Discount: 30% off

Managing Perks

Editing Perk Rules

  1. Go to Perks page
  2. Find the rule to edit
  3. Click "Edit" button
  4. Modify discount amounts
  5. Click "Save Changes"

Note: Changes affect NEW transactions only. Active tabs keep original discount.

Deactivating Perks

To temporarily disable a perk rule:

  1. Edit the perk rule
  2. Toggle "Active" switch to OFF
  3. Save changes

Effect:

  • New validations won't apply this perk
  • Existing redeemed tickets keep their discount
  • Can be re-enabled anytime

Deleting Perk Rules

Use with caution:

  1. Only delete if rule was created in error
  2. Cannot delete if any tickets have used this rule
  3. System prevents deletion to maintain audit history

Multi-Location Perks

Different Perks Per Location

Each location can have unique perk rules:

Main Club (Downtown):
- Gold VIP: 20% off drinks, $10 cover

Beach Club (Waterfront):
- Gold VIP: 15% off drinks, $15 cover

Rooftop Lounge:
- Gold VIP: 25% off drinks, Free cover

Why Different Perks?

  • Different operating costs per location
  • Location-specific pricing strategies
  • Market competition variations

Consistency vs. Flexibility

Consistent approach:

  • Easier for customers to understand
  • Simpler to communicate
  • Reduces confusion

Flexible approach:

  • Optimized for each location's economics
  • Can test different discount levels
  • Adjusts to local market conditions

Tier-Based Perks

Standard Tier Structure

Most clubs use three tiers:

Silver VIP (Entry Level):

  • 10% drink discount
  • Modest cover charge discount
  • Builds loyalty for new members

Gold VIP (Mid-Tier):

  • 20% drink discount
  • Significant cover discount
  • Rewards regular customers

Platinum VIP (Premium):

  • 30%+ drink discount
  • Free or deeply discounted cover
  • For top-spending, loyal customers

Customizing Tier Benefits

You can create any tier structure:

  • As many tiers as needed
  • Any discount percentages
  • Different names (Diamond, Executive, etc.)

Perk Best Practices

Do's

Start conservative

  • Begin with modest discounts
  • Monitor financial impact
  • Increase gradually based on results

Keep it simple

  • Easy-to-remember percentages (10%, 20%, 30%)
  • Clear tier names
  • Consistent across locations when possible

Communicate clearly

  • Customers should know their perks
  • Display on wallet pass
  • Train staff to explain benefits

Don'ts

Don't create overlapping rules

  • Only one perk rule per location + tier combination
  • System prevents conflicts but plan ahead

Don't change perks constantly

  • Customers expect consistency
  • Frequent changes cause confusion
  • Plan changes carefully

Don't discount too deeply

  • Monitor profit margins
  • Too-generous perks can hurt business
  • Balance loyalty with profitability

Monitoring Perk Usage

Reports Available

Perk Performance Report:

  • Total discount dollars given
  • Average discount per visit
  • Most used perk rules
  • ROI analysis

Tier Distribution:

  • How many customers in each tier
  • Which tiers spend the most
  • Upgrade/downgrade patterns

Key Metrics to Watch

Discount Percentage vs. Revenue

  • Are higher discounts bringing more visits?
  • Calculate: Total revenue vs. discount cost

Tier Upgrade Rate

  • Are customers moving up tiers?
  • Target: 10-15% upgrade rate quarterly

Perk Redemption Rate

  • Of customers with cards, how many use perks?
  • Target: 70%+ redemption rate

Troubleshooting Perks

Perk Not Applying at Bar

Check these:

  1. Is perk rule active?
  2. Does rule match customer's tier?
  3. Is customer at the correct location?
  4. Was ticket validated properly?

Wrong Discount Amount

Common causes:

  1. Customer's card tier changed recently
  2. Multiple perk rules configured (should be one)
  3. Bar staff manually overrode
  4. System cache (refresh should fix)

Customer Complaints About Perks

"I should get a better discount"

  • Check their current tier
  • Explain tier benefits clearly
  • Offer path to upgrade if eligible

"This didn't work last time"

  • Review visit history
  • Check if ticket was actually redeemed
  • Verify correct location
